Hiring a Professional Matters
Finding mold in your home or office can be a stressful situation. Many home and business owners don’t know how to handle it or who to call. This leaves them susceptible to scare tactics which can lead to hiring an inexperienced contractor who lacks the knowledge to remediate the mold successfully.
Hiring a professional makes a difference. Experience matters. At Blue Chip Restoration, we are a reputable general contracting company specializing in mold and water remediations. We are dedicated to safely removing mold and repairing any damage it may have caused. It is important to us that we explain the remediation process thoroughly to all of our clients. We want our client to be educated, so they better understand our process and why it is important.
Pest Control Companies are Not Mold Remediation Companies
There are many pest control companies in Nashville who claim to do mold remediation. Please take caution when you hear these claims. “Mold” may be mentioned in the initial discussion, but always review your contract. Chances are the contract will only reference the treatment of fungus and wood rot.
Pest control companies use a liquid spray that inhibits mold growth on the surface. It does not remove the root of the mold which means it will continue to grow. Do not fall prey to the quarterly treatments these companies offer. Until the mold is properly removed from the wood, and any water issues are resolved, no amount of spray will keep the mold from growing. It will ALWAYS come back. That’s what these companies want, so they can keep you as a customer. Read their contracts thoroughly.
Why Mold Remediation is more Expensive
The appeal of the pest control company is their process is less expensive. Keep in mind, you are not resolving the problem. Proper mold remediation is more expensive than spraying a pesticide because it’s more labor intensive. Spraying an average crawlspace only takes one person a few hours. A mold remediation of a crawlspace can take three people up to 3-4 days to properly clean. That alone gives you an idea of the price difference between true remediation and simply covering it up. Read the warranty. Don’t be fooled by scare tactics and a cheap price.
If you feel you have been misled, consider having an independent mold inspection company test the area to confirm or deny whether you still have mold in the crawlspace. While we do not handle mold inspections, we are happy to refer you to several Nashville-based inspectors who are very experienced with mold.
