Long story short— Don is super honest and won’t tell you that you need to hire him when you don’t. and my experience is a homeowner, this is very rare. I would trust him with any water issues is moving forward because of his honesty! Don came to check out a wet spot in a closet that was sprouting some mold. He was so thorough and kind— honest To the point that he basically told me I shouldn’t hire him. This job was so small that we could take care of it with the help of someone who can replace the drywall. To be honest, being a Mold specialist, he probably could’ve told me That we needed to remove the entire closet and I would have believed him. This level of honesty I find rare. Grateful for it!

Don Knarr and his team are wonderful! They helped me navigate the insurance maze and gave me a fair estimate. The work they completed was excellent, and they completed the job within their time frame and under estimate. Whenever I had a question, they responded to me quickly. I truly appreciate all the hand-holding their team gave me as I was working with 2 insurance companies. I highly recommend them, and I refer many people to them for a job well done. Thank you!

I can’t say enough good things About Don and Blue Chip restoration. I had a major water leak and Don provided reassurance, expertise, and endless support as I navigated the process. As a first time homebuyer, this leak was discovered right after I moved in. Don’s calm and caring nature made what was a horribly stressful experience, so much better. Don spent a generous amount of time talking me through each step and encouraging me to approach things with logic and facts rather than emotion. Don also saved me thousands of dollars by helping me make smart decisions. I am forever grateful for Don and his team and can not recommend them enough!

What to Do After Water Damage

The first priorities are safety, stopping the water source when possible, and getting the affected property assessed and dried.

If it is safe to do so, shut off the appropriate water supply. Stay away from standing water where electrical hazards may exist, and do not enter areas that appear structurally unsafe.

Move valuable belongings away from affected areas when possible and take photographs or video of the damage for your records. Then contact a water damage restoration company to determine how much moisture is present and what needs to be removed, dried, cleaned, or repaired.

EPA guidance recommends drying wet or damp materials within 24-48 hours when possible to reduce the potential for mold growth.

Our Water Damage Restoration Process

Step by step

Our Water Damage Restoration Process

From inspection and water removal to drying, cleaning, and rebuilding, our process helps identify affected areas and restore your property.

Call (615) 832-5300
  1. Inspection and Assessment

Restoration begins with identifying where water entered the property, how far it traveled, and which materials may be affected. Visible water does not always show the full extent of the problem. Moisture can move underneath flooring, behind walls, into ceilings, and into other concealed areas.

  2. Water Removal and Extraction

Standing water is removed using appropriate extraction equipment. Removing excess water helps prepare the property for the drying phase and can reduce continued exposure of materials to moisture.

  3. Structural Drying

After extraction, affected areas need to be dried thoroughly. Depending on the situation, this may involve air movement and dehumidification equipment. The goal is not simply to make surfaces feel dry. Moisture levels need to be assessed throughout the affected areas to determine whether additional drying is required.

  4. Moisture Monitoring and Documentation

Moisture documentation helps identify affected areas and track drying progress. This is particularly important when water has moved into materials that do not show obvious surface damage. Blue Chip Restoration includes moisture documentation as part of its water restoration services.

  5. Cleaning and Sanitizing

Depending on the source of the water and the condition of the property, affected areas may require cleaning and sanitizing. The appropriate approach depends on the type of water and materials involved.

  6. Restoration and Rebuilding

Water removal and drying are only part of the recovery process. Damaged drywall, flooring, walls, ceilings, or other materials may require repair or replacement. Blue Chip Restoration also provides restoration and rebuilding services, helping property owners move from emergency mitigation toward restoring the property.

Residential Water Damage Restoration

Water damage can affect kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, crawl spaces, utility areas, and other parts of a home.

Blue Chip Restoration helps homeowners in Franklin address problems such as burst pipes, plumbing leaks, appliance failures, standing water, wet flooring, damaged drywall, and storm-related water intrusion.

The correct restoration approach depends on the source, extent, and location of the damage. A professional assessment helps determine which materials can be dried and restored and which may need repair or replacement.

Commercial Water Damage Restoration

For businesses, water damage can affect both the property and day-to-day operations.

Commercial water restoration may involve larger affected areas, equipment, inventory, multiple rooms, and access considerations. Blue Chip Restoration provides water extraction, structural drying, moisture documentation, cleanup, restoration, and rebuilding for commercial properties.

For property managers and commercial owners, clear communication about affected areas and restoration steps can help keep the project organized from emergency response through repairs.

Hidden Water Damage and Mold Concerns

Moisture may be present behind drywall, underneath flooring, around cabinets, inside ceilings, or in other enclosed areas. Warning signs can include:

  • Swollen or warped materials
  • Discoloration
  • Peeling paint
  • Soft drywall
  • Musty odors
  • Persistent dampness
  • Moisture appearing away from the original leak

Yes, water damage can also create conditions where mold grows. EPA guidance emphasizes moisture control and prompt drying as important steps in reducing mold growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly should water damage be cleaned up?

As soon as possible. Prompt water removal and drying can help reduce ongoing moisture-related damage. EPA recommends drying wet or damp materials within 24–48 hours when possible.

How long does water damage restoration take?

The timeline varies based on the amount of water, affected materials, hidden moisture, drying requirements, and repair work. Extraction may be completed quickly, but drying and rebuilding can take longer.

What is the difference between water mitigation and restoration?

Water mitigation focuses on reducing immediate damage, such as removing standing water and drying affected areas. Restoration focuses on returning the property to its intended condition, including necessary repairs and rebuilding.

Can water-damaged flooring be saved?

Sometimes. The decision depends on the flooring material, amount and duration of water exposure, and overall condition. A professional assessment can determine whether drying and restoration are practical.

What happens if water gets behind drywall?

Moisture can remain hidden behind wall materials even after visible water is gone. The affected area may need moisture assessment to determine whether drying, removal, or replacement is appropriate.

Should I call a restoration company after a burst pipe?

Yes, especially when the pipe has released enough water to affect flooring, walls, ceilings, or other building materials. Prompt extraction and drying can help limit continued moisture exposure.

Can water damage affect the structure of a home?

Yes. Prolonged moisture can affect building materials and, depending on the circumstances, structural components. The extent depends on the location, duration, and severity of the water exposure.

What should I do if my basement or crawl space floods?

Prioritize safety, especially around electrical hazards or potentially contaminated water. Avoid unsafe standing water, address the source only when appropriate, document the damage, and contact a restoration professional for assessment and water removal.
